As part of the “Poland and Ukraine – Common Roots and Cultural Heritage” project, carried out under the “Youth in Action” programme, students of the Major Henryk Sucharski Complex of General and Vocational Schools in Bolesławiec travelled to Novyi Rozdil (Ukraine).
The aim of the exchange was to develop dialogue between Polish and Ukrainian young people in order to eliminate stereotypes. ZSOiZ students promoted Polish culture and customs. Learning about the culture, language, history and traditions brought the young people of both nations closer together and resulted in many friendships.
The exchange participants expanded their knowledge of the culture, traditions, religious rites, and the region or city of their partner. The young people acquired new skills. Joint activities sparked curiosity and a desire to deepen their existing knowledge. The most interesting activities for the students were learning the basics of their neighbour’s language, cooking national dishes and discussing the European Union.
In addition, the project participants visited Lviv, where they searched for traces of Polish heritage. A walk through Lychakiv Cemetery and the Cemetery of the Defenders of Lviv was a unique experience; there, the young people paid tribute to the fallen by lighting a symbolic flag made of red-and-white votive candles.
