The South Slavic Culture Festival will take place in Bolesławiec Market Square. The idea behind this recurring event is to preserve the traditions of Balkan culture, with which many Bolesławiec residents are connected.
A festival village will be established in the Market Square, inhabited by women from Rural Women’s Associations and folk groups. It will be an opportunity to try Balkan dishes. There will be pita with various toppings to choose from (sweet and spicy), goulash and pepper soup, while the main culinary attraction will be pečenica, a festive dish of roasted suckling pig served in the Balkan countries.
This year, the festival stage will feature, among others, the Balkan-Klezmer orchestra “Di Grine Kuzine”, and the “Prosvjeta” ensemble with a programme of games and songs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. The folk group “Balkan Sevdah” will invite everyone interested to learn the traditional circle dance “Pravo Horo” during its performance. Chorwackie Dudy Orchestra will also perform for the people of Bolesławiec.
The star of the Festival will be Tsigunz Fanfara Avantura, a seven-member brass band performing original, modern arrangements of traditional melodies from the Balkans, Turkey, the Middle East and India.
Opening of the “Nest of Dots” exhibition
As part of the 12th South Slavic Culture Festival, the opening of the “Nest of Dots” exhibition will take place on Friday, 22 June, at 6:00 p.m. at the BOK-MCC Długa Gallery. Two Serbian artists from Belgrade, Ksenija Pantelić and Jovana Ćosić, will present their work.
Ksenija Pantelić and Jovana Ćosić are promising artists who currently focus their work on the motif of the dot (using the dot as a vehicle for communication) and the possibilities of using this motif in their visual and audiovisual works.
Ksenia Pantelić will present an installation with photographs and a thousand bird-shaped origami pieces, as well as the “Oval Circles” graphics. These works are composed of countless dots arranged in the shape of fingerprints. Johana Ćosić will present an animation combined with a four-metre installation, as well as graphics.
