An agreement has been signed to expand cooperation between the City of Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County and the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. The agreement was signed by Prof. Tadeusz Słomka, PhD, DSc (Dean of the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection), and Andrzej Szybist, PhD, Eng. (Deputy Dean for Part-Time Studies). The Municipality of Bolesławiec was represented by Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, on whose behalf Deputy Mayor Karol Stasik acted. Bolesławiec County was represented by County Head Krzysztof Konopka and Deputy County Head Cezary Przybylski.
Under the agreement, classes will be launched in Bolesławiec in the Mining and Geology degree programme, with specialisations in “Geology and Mineral Deposit Prospecting”, “Stone and Stonemasonry in Architecture and Construction”, “Mining Geology” and “Geoinformatics”. Classes will begin in the 2005/2006 academic year.
Lectures, classroom, project-based and consultation sessions will be held at the Bolesławiec Branch Teaching Centre, in the building of General Secondary School Complex No. 1 on Tyrankiewiczów Street. Classes in specialist laboratories will be held at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. All teaching will be carried out in accordance with the plans approved by the Faculty Council and the currently applicable curricula for part-time engineering studies.
Under the agreement, Bolesławiec County will provide teaching rooms in the ZSO building free of charge and cover the costs associated with maintaining those rooms. The Municipality of Bolesławiec will cover accommodation costs for AGH teaching staff conducting the classes. Classes will be held on Friday afternoons, Saturdays and Sundays, in three-day sessions. The rules for recruiting first-year students comply with resolutions of the Faculty Council and the AGH Senate. The part-time engineering studies conducted at the Bolesławiec Branch Teaching Centre are fee-based. The amount of the semester fees in each academic year is determined each time by a Faculty Council resolution in accordance with the rules applicable at AGH and approved by the Rector.
In the current academic year, engineering studies at the Bolesławiec Branch Teaching Centre are conducted by the Faculty of Materials Engineering and Ceramics in the Chemical Technology degree programme, with a specialisation in “Ceramics and Glass”. There are currently 50 students. The Bolesławiec Branch Teaching Centre was established as a result of an agreement between AGH, the Municipality of Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County, concluded in December 2003.
