The central stage of the nationwide “Skilled in the Bricklaying Profession” competition was held on 21–24 May in Pasłęk (Elbląg County). Our voivodeship and the Bolesławiec Voluntary Labour Corps were represented by a team from the Construction School Complex in Bolesławiec (comprising Tomasz Mielecki and Marcin Zapał – winners of the voivodeship “Skilled in the Bricklaying Profession” competition). The team’s supervisor is Jacek Nesler, commander of the Voluntary Labour Corps.

The competition consisted of a theoretical part (participants had to complete a 40-question test) and a practical part (building a wall).

The staff of the Training and Education Centre in Pasłęk prepared many excellent recreational activities. One of them was a trip to a huge golf course. The young people also had the opportunity to play football, watch a kickboxing demonstration, visit the beautiful city of Elbląg, test their skills at a sports shooting range and play bowling. What is more, the young bricklayers took a sightseeing boat cruise and went kayaking and pedal boating.

The results were announced on 24 May. Among others, the winners were honoured by Jerzy Mormul, Chief Commander of the Voluntary Labour Corps. The host team won the competition. The team from Bolesławiec took fifth place. “The organisers deserve great praise for the excellent organisation, creating a friendly atmosphere and showing extraordinary kindness and care,” says Jacek Nesler.
