Around 300 students of II Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Janusza Korczaka in Bolesławiec took part in the Poland Runs campaign. “Back in 2009, I organized a run as part of this campaign—the first such event in Bolesławiec,” says Mirosław Sakowski, headmaster of II LO. “At the time, nearly 50 people took part in the competition, which was held in the forest near Piastów Street.”

The route of the run, held on May 18 this year, was laid out along the Bóbr River. The girls had around 800 meters to cover, while the boys ran approximately 1,600 meters. “We started first thing in the morning,” says Krzysztof Malina, physical education teacher and co-organizer of the competition.

“Poland Runs is a great initiative of Gazeta Wyborcza,” Sakowski emphasizes. “Running is a basic form of exercise; it does not require major financial resources, and almost anyone can do it. With Friday’s run, we wanted to encourage young people to take up sports.”

The event was organized by Mirosław Sakowski and the physical education teachers: Edyta Kwiecińska, Krzysztof Malina and Piotr Napiórkowski. On Monday, May 21, the best runners received certificates and prizes. In the girls’ category, Katarzyna Goleńska won. Martyna Cybulska came second, and Agata Reguła third. Among the boys, Maciej Goss recorded the best time. Wojciech Domowicz placed second, while Adam Rozwadowski came third.

According to the headmaster of II LO, the event has a chance to become a lasting part of the school’s traditions.
