Bolesławiec residents can look forward to seven weekends of shared entertainment in the first half of summer. BOK-MCC has prepared concerts, theatre performances and music workshops. The program has been designed to appeal to children, young people and adults. All the attractions will take place in the Market Square and its surroundings. Music workshops will be held in BOK-MCC studios.
The first events have been prepared especially for Children’s Day. There will be a concert by Majka Jeżowska (1 June). A Clowns’ Town will be opened in the Market Square. Two clowns – Pyskula and Maruda – will teach children the basics of pantomime, selected clown steps, plate spinning, juggling plates, scarves and balls, as well as making balloon animals.
The Krakow Street Theatre “Scena Kalejdoskop” has been invited to perform a show for children (1 June and 8 June), as has Zdrojowy Theatre of Animation (15 June). Zdrojowy Theatre of Animation will stage a performance based on poems by Jan Brzechwa.
A string quartet concert, “Pearls of Classical Music,” will take place in the courtyard of Zamkowy Square (9 June). The program will feature universally familiar works from the classical music repertoire.
The organizers invite everyone to a spectacular chamber music concert on 16 June (the courtyard of Sierpnia ’80 Street; stairwells 4/6, 7/9 and 10/11). A percussion quartet will perform the program “The Enchanted World of Rhythm.” On Friday, 22 June, a piano trio will present the program “From the Romantic Era to Film Music” (the courtyard of Sierpnia ’80 Street; stairwells 30/32, 36 and 37). The concert will feature melodies from “Schindler’s List,” “Love Story,” “Scent of a Woman” and “Titanic.”
On the penultimate weekend of June, the South Slavic Culture Festival will be held. Among those performing will be “Grine Kuzie,” a Balkan-Klezmer orchestra; “Prosvjeta,” a group presenting a program of games and songs from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia; “Balkan Sevdah,” which will invite everyone interested to learn the traditional Pravo Horo line dance; and “Tsigunz Fanfara Awantura,” a seven-member brass band performing original, modern arrangements of traditional melodies from the Balkans, Turkey, the Middle East and India.
At the Forum on 5 July, the Croatian National Song and Dance Ensemble LADO will perform (admission fee applies). It will come to Bolesławiec thanks to cooperation between the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre–International Ceramics Centre and the Embassy of Croatia in Poland.
On the July weekends, visitors will be able to listen to arias and hits from musical theatres and operettas (6 July) and see the satirical musical show “Divine Comedy ‘Ghosts and Rock ’n’ Roll,’ or The World Turned Upside Down in Malinowo” (7 July). On the same day, there will also be a concert by Ariel Ramirez (bandoneon – a type of hand-held accordion) and special guests Wiesław Prządka (accordion, bandoneon) and the Tangoki dance couple.
The 2012 Bolesławiec Cultural Passage will conclude on 14 July with the blues concert “Blues Night in Bolesławiec.” The performers will include “Chłopaki z Ferajny,” “Mercedes Band” and the winner of Rock Blok w BOK 2011, the band “Trzynasta w samo południe.”
Polish-German music workshops will be held at the BOK-MCC studio from 9 to 13 July in guitar, bass, percussion and vocal classes, alongside parallel image-recording sessions in photography and film. The workshops will be led by leading artists from the Polish and German music scenes.
