At around 9:30 p.m., the Fire Service received information that sparks were flying from the basement air-intake window beneath a chemical shop on Prusa Street in Bolesławiec. Two fire engines were sent to the scene.
After arriving, the firefighters began extinguishing the fire from outside through the air-intake window. At the same time, they tried to get into the basement. It turned out that it could only be accessed through the shop, so the owners were called.
Once they entered the basement, it turned out that firewood stored next to the window was burning. The firefighters suspect that a passerby started the fire by dropping a cigarette butt into the air-intake grate.
The entire operation to extinguish the wood and ventilate the rooms lasted just under an hour and involved seven firefighters.
