Residents of Bolesławiec are happy to laugh at the jokes of the Neo-Nówka and Żarówka cabaret groups, and the satirists always remember to include a Bolesławiec reference in their sketches. This time it was a rhyme: “What kind of city is this, where there’s faience on the roundabout and Germany is just around the corner...” and a joke about a stewardess serving drinks on a PKS bus travelling the Bolesławiec–Osiecznica route.

The satirists began their show with a short introduction and instructions on how to use the cabaret. The audience was told that they should clap, which for some might be the only form of exercise they had had during the week, which was already coming to an end. They were also allowed to bang their heads against the backrest out of delight.

The Żarówki group introduced itself humorously as the last five light bulbs remaining after the European Union Parliament had withdrawn them from use. The artists also informed the single women in the room that the group’s keyboard player, Piotr Spychała, was still looking for a wife.

The group entertained the audience with golden maxims about women who, with their skirts hitched up, would overtake any man with his trousers down; about how the impossible thing was paying by card at Biedronka; and about how Małyszomania was still going on—skis were being stolen, while Germans walked along the promenade carrying only poles.

At both performances yesterday, the audience thanked the performers for the excellent entertainment with enthusiastic applause.
