The program is aimed at residents of all Polish cities with no more than eight thousand inhabitants. From Monday to Saturday (May 23–28), examinations will be conducted in Nowogrodziec. It will be possible to have blood pressure measured and cholesterol and blood sugar levels tested free of charge.

Patients in whom disease-related changes are detected will be referred for more thorough examinations at specialist clinics and will also receive training במסגרת a special educational program designed to encourage them to take their medication regularly, change their lifestyle and develop the ability to cooperate effectively with a doctor.

The Polish 400 Cities Project was developed by staff members of the Medical University of Gdańsk. The initiative is addressed to residents of small towns, as these communities experience a concentration of negative factors.

Heart and vascular diseases are the main threat to the health of Poles. The premature mortality they cause is among the highest in Europe and accounts for half of all deaths.
