Our Reader asked us to publicize the case:

I am writing in connection with disturbing incidents that have been taking place for some time on Bielska Street (the apartment blocks on the side of the former Bolek). About two months ago, the first reports came from neighbors—someone had tried to break into their apartments. One night, there was an attempted break-in in one of the blocks. According to a neighbor, the burglar simply put a key into the lock of his door and tried to open it. Fortunately, the neighbor could not sleep that night. He ran to the door because he wanted to catch the thief in the act. Unfortunately, the burglar managed to escape. The neighbor was unable to identify the thief’s face because the stairwell was dark.

Later, one of the neighbors informed us that someone had tried to break into her apartment. The incident took place in the afternoon. The neighbor was sitting in the kitchen with a friend when suddenly the neighbor’s dog began barking loudly. At first, she thought it was her husband returning from shopping. Both women heard the sound of a key being put into the lock and several attempts to turn it, after which the sound stopped. The women were surprised because no one entered the home. About 10–15 minutes after the incident, the neighbor’s husband arrived. It turned out that he had not been the one trying to enter the home.

Unfortunately, at the end of January, we received even more alarming information: four apartments had been robbed in the neighboring stairwell. The case was reported to the police, and the neighbors were questioned; however, the residents of Bielska Street remained afraid. I kindly ask you to publicize the matter in order to warn others and draw attention to the need for greater caution in this situation. It is not known where the burglars will strike next.

As Sebastian Kulbida informed us, measures are being taken to establish the perpetrators’ identities and arrest them. The burglars face up to 10 years in prison.
