Dr Eng Tadeusz Zastawnik, a major figure in the history of Polish copper, has died. Zastawnik was born in 1922 in Trzebinia. In 1951, he became investment director of the “Konrad” Mining Works (while also serving as acting director of “Konrad”). From 1952 to 1956, he was a member of parliament representing the Bolesławiec region in the Sejm of the Polish People’s Republic. He served as head of the Central Board of Non-Ferrous Ore Mining in Katowice and of the KGHM Central Board. From 1975 to 1979, he was undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Energy and Atomic Energy. From 1986 to 1990, he was director of the “Cuprum” Copper Research and Design Works in Wrocław. In 2004, KGHM published his biography, “Tadeusz Zastawnik. Man of Polish Copper” (compiled by Barbara Folta).

Zastawnik died on January 20 this year in Warsaw. The funeral ceremony will take place on January 26 at Powązki Cemetery.
