Marek Zyga’s work focuses primarily on the human figure. Despite the apparent monothematic nature, each sculpture represents a spectrum of increasingly new formal solutions enclosed in the material that is clay.
– My sculptures are products of the imagination, even though they are based on the framework of a male or female figure – says Marek Zyga. – They reject literary and philosophical inquiry, leaving it to the viewers. My works are rather the result of formal explorations; they arise from observing structures and colours. From what is both contrasting and harmonious – he adds.
For Marek Zyga, the human being is a source of inspiration and a supreme value, hence his fondness for figurative sculpture. The artist’s works, created through pressing, casting, joining or dividing, reveal his outstanding craftsmanship. Zyga’s sculptures draw attention to elements of naturalism in the treatment of detail and his painterly use of light. On the other hand, he is able to avoid portrait-like realism by employing a synthetic form, succinctly characterising the essence of the figure’s movement and creating compact, self-contained compositions in his sculptures.
The exhibition opening will take place on Saturday, 10 December, at 6:00 p.m. The exhibition will be open until 30 January 2012.
