You can go abroad for a placement or volunteering while you are a student or for up to two years after graduation. AIESEC offers a wide range of international opportunities, depending on your field of study and interests. These include placements and volunteering with non-governmental organisations or small and medium-sized enterprises in areas such as non-governmental organisations, CSR projects, marketing, finance, HR and PR. The main regions you can travel to are Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Central Europe and South America for people who speak Spanish.
“Taking part in volunteering abroad can really teach you independence. You can also learn a great deal about your own country and how it is perceived. Besides, I now have friends in countries such as the Czech Republic, Romania and Brazil, whom I plan to visit next year,” says Kasia, a law student at Katolicki Uniwersytet Lubelski, who volunteered in Saint Petersburg.
What do you need to do to go abroad? The first step is to complete the application available on the AIESEC website. This is followed by an interview with an AIESEC member, a language test and short training sessions to prepare for the trip.
What additionally distinguishes AIESEC from other offers for going abroad includes preparation for the placement and help with handling all the formalities connected with the trip. During their stay abroad, participants can count on the organisation’s support, and after returning they can join it and become active locally, developing their skills and making use of the contacts and experience they have gained.
