Before every major holiday, BOK-MCC instructors organise themed, free workshops for children. During the “Pumpkin in the Background” classes, participants created their own Halloween lanterns and bats from cardstock, which proved to be a great decoration for everyday outfits.

The programme was prepared by two instructors: Katarzyna Klepaczek – an art historian and curator of many excellent exhibitions in the institution’s galleries, and Edyta Orlińska – a ceramic sculptor who runs the ceramic and sculpture studio at BOK-MCC. Thanks to the instructors, the activities were well thought out and engaging. Participation required the children’s involvement and gave them the opportunity to create their own unique works.

Making a Halloween lantern was a challenge. The workshop participants had to hollow out a pumpkin, removing the seeds and pulp, and then cut openings in it. This activity probably caused the most excitement among the children. Each child could give their pumpkin an individual appearance. Using markers, the children drew eyes, a nose and a mouth, which they later carefully cut out under adult supervision. To give each work a unique character, some participants additionally outlined the openings with colourful pastels. Thirty children took part in the activities. Each participant could take their creation home
