For two weeks now, a palm tree has been growing beside a tenement building on Kaszubska Street. The date palm is about two metres tall and stands in a well-kept garden covered with white pebbles. It is intended to attract customers to a travel agency office opening at this location.

“We decided that this was an excellent way to draw passers-by’s attention to our office,” says the agency’s owner, Agnieszka Furman-Zając. “I ordered the palm from ‘Zieleń-Plan’. It can withstand frost as severe as 15 degrees below zero, but if it gets too cold, we will move it indoors,” she adds.

A representative of ‘Zieleń-Plan’ informed us that the date palm ordered by the travel agency can withstand frost as severe as 30 degrees below zero. The palm was ordered from a nursery in Poland, but it is not known whether it grew in our country or was brought in from some exotic, warm place.

Anyone who longs for tropical sunshine during the dreary autumn weather can dream about it while looking at the palm on Kaszubska Street.
