The incident occurred on October 7, 2026, at around 4:00 p.m., in Piława Górna.
The 17-year-old was riding an electric scooter while carrying his friend. At one point, the rider failed to maintain a safe distance between the vehicles. As a result, the scooter collided with a Nissan passenger car driven by a 72-year-old man.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.
Two people on one scooter, two fines
Officers informed the teenager that an electric scooter is a single-person vehicle.
The teenager was issued two fines— for causing a road incident and for carrying a passenger on an electric scooter.
Police point out that an additional person on the deck can affect the scooter’s stability, the ability to brake effectively and control of the vehicle. Even an apparently harmless ride for two can therefore end in a collision.
Scooters also a problem in Bolesławiec and the surrounding area
The problem is not limited to Piława Górna. Residents of Bolesławiec and the surrounding area
are also increasingly having to deal with scooter riders’ reckless behavior. The issue of scooter safety was also recently discussed during a session of the Bolesławiec City Council. City authorities drew attention to residents’ reports concerning fast-moving scooters and the problems they can cause in public spaces.
The city had even prepared measures to restrict scooter use in selected locations, including the public gardens, parks and the area along the Bóbr River. Speed limits were also planned in some locations.
Ultimately, the voivode’s legal oversight authority challenged the prepared regulation. As city officials explained, regulations concerning scooters are already included in statutory provisions, so the local government cannot simply repeat them in its own regulation. However, the city announced that it would seek other ways to resolve the problem.
One scooter — one person
Police appeal for common sense and remind people that an electric scooter is a vehicle, not a toy. When using one, people must obey the regulations and exercise caution.
