Everyone can see what the Bolesławiec stadium is like. Two years ago, we wrote that the facility was to be completely transformed (see the article Bolesławiec Selected for the Athletics Orlik Project!). “The necessary design documentation was commissioned at that time,” says Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec City Hall. “The planned project was intended to modernize the Municipal Stadium and create a multifunctional sports facility consisting of a full-size football pitch and an athletics section.”
In 2010, the city’s application was submitted to the Ministry of Sport, but the city did not receive funding. “The cost of this investment is approximately PLN 6 million. The municipality cannot afford to cover such an expense on its own,” the spokesperson explains. Officials therefore looked for other sources of financing. “Last year, this project was submitted to the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Sports Infrastructure Development Programme for 2010–2012. This year, we submitted the same project to the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Sports Infrastructure Development Programme for 2011–2013. In both cases, it was placed on the reserve list. In practice, this means that we will not receive a grant from the marshal’s office,” says Agnieszka Gergont. She adds that the Municipality of Bolesławiec will continue looking for other ways to obtain funding for the investment.
