A trailer of a heavy goods vehicle caught fire on Thursday, 27 August, at around 3:00 a.m., on the A4 motorway, at kilometre 106 heading towards Legnica.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, it turned out that a trailer filled with compacted waste paper was on fire.
Before the emergency services arrived, the truck driver detached the tractor unit from the trailer. As a result, the fire did not spread to the remaining part of the vehicle.
The firefighting operation proved challenging due to the nature of the transported cargo. The compacted bales of waste paper had to be removed from the trailer and thoroughly doused with water. Firefighters reported that pockets of fire were still present inside the cargo, so mopping-up operations may take several more hours.
Due to the ongoing operations, the A4 motorway from the Budziszów Wielki interchange to the Wądroże Wielkie interchange is blocked in the direction of Legnica. Drivers travelling along this section should expect difficulties.
Units from JRG Jawor, OSP Granowice, OSP KSRG Budziszów Wielki, OSP KSRG Wądroże Wielkie, OSP KSRG Marcinowice, OSP KSRG Mściwojów and the Police worked at the scene. OSP Paszowice took over securing the Jawor county area for the duration of the operation.
The Jawor Police are investigating the cause and exact course of the incident.
