Rondo Solidarności at the entrance to Bolesławiec from the direction of Kruszyn is not, in the opinion of one of our readers, the best showcase. At the end of July, she drew attention to the condition of the site and suggested using its location to create an arrangement referring to ceramics, for which Bolesławiec is known in Poland and abroad.
– The roundabout at the entrance to the city from the direction of Kruszyn has remained undeveloped and overgrown for a long time. It is difficult to regard it as a showcase of the city, especially now, when (…) the Festival of Ceramics will take place and thousands of guests from Poland and abroad will visit Bolesławiec – she wrote.
As she noted, many tourists reach Bolesławiec from the motorway, precisely through Kruszyn. In her view, the appearance of the roundabout matters not only to residents, but also to people visiting the city for the first time.
– Many visitors will enter the city from the motorway, precisely from the direction of Kruszyn. First impressions matter enormously, and a neglected roundabout certainly does not reflect the potential or character of a city famous throughout the world for its ceramics – she argued.
The reader also presented a specific idea for changing the appearance of the roundabout. In her view, local ceramic companies could become involved.
– Perhaps it would be worth considering developing it aesthetically? Many excellent ceramic companies operate in Bolesławiec and could contribute to creating a unique arrangement using ceramic products. At the same time, this would be a beautiful promotion of the city and excellent advertising for local manufacturers – she suggested.
We contacted the Wrocław branch of GDDKiA with questions about the condition of the site, the flags and the possibility of developing it in the future.
Who is responsible for the flags at Rondo Solidarności?
Magdalena Szumiata, spokesperson for the Wrocław branch of GDDKiA:
So far, GDDKiA has not received any comments from residents concerning the appearance of Rondo Solidarności, including the condition of the flags located there. At the same time, I inform you that the flags at the roundabout are put up by Urząd Miasta Bolesławiec or the “Solidarność” union. We have no information as to whether measures related to changing or improving the appearance of this site are planned in the near future. No one has contacted us regarding decorating or developing Rondo Solidarności.
Could the roundabout be developed? GDDKiA does not rule out such a possibility
We also asked whether it would be possible in the future to create an arrangement at the roundabout referring to Bolesławiec’s ceramic traditions. GDDKiA does not rule out such a solution:
GDDKiA allows for the possibility of aesthetically developing roundabouts, provided that applicable regulations and road traffic safety requirements are observed. There are currently two roundabouts in Bolesławiec whose design refers to local ceramic traditions. Relevant administrative decisions have been issued for the development of their central islands; these specify, among other things, obligations related to maintaining the appearance and greenery within the roundabout.
First the concept, then GDDKiA’s analysis
According to the Directorate’s response, any development of Rondo Solidarności would require a formal submission of a specific proposal. Magdalena Szumiata:
Implementing a similar initiative at Rondo Solidarności would first require submitting a proposal to GDDKiA for developing the site and presenting the planned measures. Once the concept had been submitted, it would be analysed in terms of road traffic safety, compliance with applicable regulations and maintenance conditions. Then, subject to the agreement of both parties and depending on the nature of the matter, an agreement would be concluded between the parties or an administrative decision would be issued.
