On Wednesday, August 12, a partial solar eclipse could be seen over Bolesławiec. The phenomenon began in the evening and became increasingly spectacular as sunset approached.
The best viewing conditions were available to those who chose locations with an unobstructed view of the western horizon—open fields, elevated areas and taller buildings. The Sun was already low above the horizon, allowing the eclipse to be observed against the distinctive orange evening sky.
In Bolesławiec, the weather allowed people to observe the phenomenon, and many residents took the opportunity to take photographs. We also have a series of photos showing the eclipse over the city.
The view was particularly spectacular during the final phase before sunset. The partially obscured solar disk appeared just above the city skyline, creating a rarely seen image.
The eclipse was also visible in other parts of Lower Silesia and Lusatia. On the German side of the border, special astronomy events were organized, including in Weißwasser and Schwarzkollm, where observations were conducted using suitable equipment.
Another opportunity like this does not come often, so Wednesday evening will certainly be remembered especially by those who prepared a viewing spot in advance and looked toward the western sky.
