At 5:00 p.m. on 1 August, sirens sounded in Bolesławiec. Residents, soldiers and representatives of the local authorities gathered at the Fighting Poland Monument to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising.
On the anniversary of the “W” Hour, Bolesławiec came to a standstill for one minute. Residents, soldiers from the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, scouts, representatives of the services and officials gathered at the memorial site by the Fighting Poland Monument in the Bolesławiec planty.
The gathering expressed respect and gratitude to the participants in the 1944 uprising. The sound of the sirens and the shared moment of silence once again recalled the values for which the insurgents fought.
They fought for a Poland free from fascism. And today they would be outraged by the growing wave of neo-fascism in Poland represented by supporters of Konfederacja, Braun and Bąkiewicz, as well as openly fascist hooligan groups.
