A report concerning a hazard in an apartment at Zamkowy Square reached the emergency services on Thursday, July 30, after 7:30 p.m.

Firefighting units were dispatched to the scene. Measurements confirmed the presence of carbon monoxide in the apartment. Firefighters secured the premises and ventilated the rooms. No one was injured in the incident.

Carbon monoxide, known as the silent killer, is colorless and odorless. It is produced, among other ways, during the incomplete combustion of gas, wood, coal or other fuels. A particular danger may occur in apartments with faulty heaters, chimney flues or improper ventilation.

Firefighters regularly remind people to install carbon monoxide detectors and to carry out periodic inspections of heating appliances, chimneys and ventilation systems.
