A 63-year-old resident of Nowogrodziec Municipality learned that even a short car journey after drinking alcohol can have serious consequences. The man was arrested by community police officers who, while on patrol, noticed his vehicle leaving a car park by a store.
The incident occurred in one of the localities in Nowogrodziec Municipality. Community police officers from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec were patrolling the area when they noticed a car leaving a store car park. The officers decided to conduct a roadside check.
A 63-year-old resident of the municipality was behind the wheel. The sobriety test showed that he had 0.7 per mille of alcohol in his system. Police determined that the man lived a short distance from the store; however, despite having consumed alcohol earlier, he decided to drive there.
The officers seized the driver's licence. The 63-year-old will now face court proceedings for driving while intoxicated.
This offence carries a penalty of up to three years in prison. The driver must also expect a driving ban and severe financial consequences.
Police once again remind the public that even a short journey after drinking alcohol can pose a threat to the life and health of road users. Officers urge people never to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol and to use other safe ways to get home.
