(…) if you want to write a very interesting article, the summer activities of amateur “racers” and their nightly antics, happening every day at the intersection of Zgorzelecka and Wesoła streets, in the car park of the large Carrefour and the shopping center opposite the fire station, with the police remaining completely passive, would certainly be a gold mine. (Are they afraid? Are they lazy? Who knows.)

Despite numerous reports, certainly not only from me and my household, the police have failed to respond for years. If you ask residents of our neighborhood, they will surely share their impressions and opinions about these so-called racers, not to mention our county’s “guardians” of the law.

We asked Komenda Powiatowa Policji w Bolesławcu about the matter. We are awaiting a response.

Illegal street racing, drifting, or sudden acceleration on public roads and in car parks pose a serious threat to all road users. Drivers performing such maneuvers often travel at excessive speed and have limited ability to react when a pedestrian, cyclist, or another vehicle suddenly appears. Even seemingly empty car parks may be places from which a car can pull out or an unsuspecting person can emerge at any moment.

Such behavior also affects the comfort and safety of residents of nearby housing estates. Loud engine noise and screeching tires disturb nighttime rest, while repeated dangerous stunts can lead to collisions or accidents with tragic consequences. That is why road safety experts stress that any attempts to test a car’s capabilities or one’s own skills should take place only in designated areas, not on public roads (or in public places).
