Organised by the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec with its registered office in Kruszyn, the “Letter” literary competition is intended not only to save the art of letter writing, which is disappearing in the age of the Internet, from oblivion, but also to develop imagination and the ability to express oneself freely through text.
The theme of this year’s edition is “Thank you... I’m sorry” – its interpretation is up to the competition participants. Both the addressee and the situations described in the text may be fictional. There are, however, two conditions: the letter must be handwritten and must not be plagiarised!
The competition is open to everyone, regardless of age or place of residence. Those wishing to participate should send one letter, written by hand in legible handwriting (illegible letters will not be assessed). The envelope should also contain a sheet of paper with the participant’s details: first and last name, address and contact telephone number, as well as a declaration consenting to publication.
The jury will assess participants’ entries in three age categories: 10 to 12, 13 to 15, and 16 and over (the organisers have set no upper age limit). The authors of the most interesting entries can look forward to material and cash prizes, as well as the possibility of having their award-winning letters published (provided, of course, that their authors consent).
Entries should be sent by 15 October 2011 (the postmark date is decisive) to: Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec with its registered office in Kruszyn, Kruszyn, 1b Kasztanowa Street, 59-700 Bolesławiec. All competition winners will be notified (by post or telephone) of the date of the award ceremony.
The competition, held under the patronage of the Szczecin branch of the Association of Polish Writers, is nationwide. Members of the APW will sit on the jury. The Istotne.pl website is the event’s media patron.
