Dramatic moments unfolded on Friday morning in Stara Kamienica. The Emergency Medical Team from Jelenia Góra received a report about a man who choked during a meal, causing a complete obstruction of his airways. As a result, he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
Due to the considerable distance between the scene and the emergency medical team’s base, the medical dispatcher also dispatched firefighters from OSP KSRG Stara Kamienica and a unit from JRG 1 of the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Jelenia Góra.
The first minutes proved decisive. The family members immediately began assisting the casualty, and after he lost consciousness, they started cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Upon arriving at the scene, the firefighters took over CPR and continued until the emergency medical team arrived.
The paramedics initiated advanced medical rescue procedures and then transported the patient to the Regional Hospital Center of the Jelenia Góra Valley. Thanks to the effectively conducted operation, the man arrived at the Emergency Department conscious and responsive.
This incident shows how important it is to quickly recognize a threat and immediately begin basic life-saving measures. In the event of sudden cardiac arrest, every minute of delay reduces the chances of survival, which is why the quick reaction of bystanders often determines the casualty’s fate.
