The incident occurred at around 1:00 a.m. during a nighttime patrol conducted by officers from the Traffic Division of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. On a regional road, officers stopped a passenger car for inspection. It was being driven by a 52-year-old resident of Lubań County.
After checking the driver’s details in police systems, it turned out that the man should not have been behind the wheel at all. He was subject to three court-ordered bans on driving motor vehicles, including two lifetime bans. All of them had previously been imposed by the District Court in Lubań.
During the intervention, the driver explained to the officers that he did not use a car on a daily basis. He said that on that day he had exceptionally decided to drive after having the vehicle repaired, in order to check whether it was working properly. A female passenger was also in the car.
Due to the suspicion that a crime had been committed, the officers prevented the man from driving any further. The car was removed from the road and towed away on a flatbed truck.
The 52-year-old was detained, and his case was referred to the District Court in Bolesławiec and heard under accelerated proceedings. The court sentenced the man to six months in prison and ordered him to pay PLN 10,000 to the Fund for the Assistance of Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance.
Driving a vehicle despite an active court-ordered ban is a crime. In such cases, the court may impose a prison sentence, as well as additional criminal measures and financial obligations provided for by law.
