There is new information about the police chase involving a black Volkswagen Passat, which began on Tuesday in Bolesławiec County and ended in Grochocin in Złotoryja County.
As we have already reported, at around 10 a.m., officers from the Independent Police Prevention Unit in Legnica attempted to stop the Volkswagen driver for inspection. The man ignored the signals being given and began to flee, driving, among other places, through the Warta Bolesławiecka municipality. The chase ended only in Brochocin, where the car went into a roadside ditch.
A 40-year-old resident of Lubań County was arrested. He was not travelling alone – the passenger was a 43-year-old man, also from Lubań County.
Police determined that the 40-year-old did not have a driving licence. The Volkswagen he was driving also had swapped license plates.
That was not all, however. During the proceedings, officers found intoxicants in the car. Preliminary tests indicated that they were methamphetamine and marijuana.
Preliminary findings also indicate that the 40-year-old may have been driving under the influence of intoxicants. To confirm this, blood was taken from him for further laboratory tests. The results will determine whether he will also be charged with driving under the influence of drugs.
For failing to stop for a roadside inspection, the man faces up to five years in prison. He will also answer for driving a vehicle without the required licence and will be held responsible for driving a car with swapped license plates. If blood tests confirm the presence of intoxicants in his system while he was driving, the list of charges may become even longer.
