On Friday, September 2, a press conference was held at the Bolesławiec Cultural Center–International Ceramics Center, attended by Sejm Marshal Grzegorz Schetyna, Dariusz Kwaśniewski, Jan Michalski and Beata Solpa-Tertel. All four were Civic Platform candidates for parliament. The meeting was hosted by Civic Platform MEP Piotr Borys.
Grzegorz Schetyna spoke first. “Bolesławiec is a symbolic place, located very close to the motorway; one could even say that it is in the center of Lower Silesia,” the marshal said. “This city is an example of how effective the past four years have been when it comes to infrastructure investment.
Schetyna mentioned, among other things, the A4 motorway, the opening of the Wrocław bypass, tens of millions of euros spent on improving the Wrocław–Węgliniec–Zgorzelec–Dresden railway line, as well as the reconstruction of local roads. “This is a major project whose guiding force is Bolesławiec County head Cezary Przybylski,” the Civic Platform politician noted.
“We did not manage to complete every project,” he admitted. “But we are pleased with what we began building, modernizing and changing.”
According to Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a candidate for the Sejm, Civic Platform faces a straightforward task. “We want to ensure that this good momentum continues, so that Poland remains a positive country looking ahead rather than backward,” the candidate said. “I believe that votes for Civic Platform will be votes cast for a modern Poland.”
Jan Michalski, a candidate for the Senate and head of the Turów Zgorzelec basketball club, addressed Civic Platform’s contribution to expanding sports infrastructure. “I am proud of projects such as the Orliks. Investing in sports facilities is particularly important to me,” he stressed. He added that although he is associated with Zgorzelec, in the Senate he would look after the interests of residents of both counties: Zgorzelec and Bolesławiec.
During the conference, Grzegorz Schetyna also addressed the issue of a debate between Donald Tusk and Jarosław Kaczyński. “I believe it is essential,” he noted. “On September 9, Civic Platform’s convention will take place, where we will present our election program. Then Jarosław Kaczyński will no longer have an excuse to avoid the debate.
Asked whether he could imagine a coalition between Civic Platform and the Democratic Left Alliance, Schetyna replied that he could not.
