The District Prosecutor’s Office in Kamienna Góra has filed an indictment with the District Court in Jelenia Góra against a 41-year-old resident of Kamienna Góra County. The man will stand trial for causing a road accident while intoxicated, the consequences of which proved very serious.
The incident occurred on the evening of April 16, 2026, in Lubawka. Investigators established that the accused was driving a Škoda Octavia passenger car, which he had previously taken for temporary use.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the driver deliberately violated road safety rules. He had approximately 2.8 per mille of alcohol in his system, and was also subject to a court-imposed ban on driving motor vehicles issued by the District Court in Wałbrzych, effective from July 16, 2025, to July 16, 2028.
Investigators say that the man was driving at a speed considerably exceeding the limit and failed to adapt his driving to the road conditions. As a result, he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a concrete pole.
As a result of the accident, the passenger sitting in the front seat suffered extensive bodily injuries that caused serious harm to his health in the form of an illness posing a real threat to his life. The female passenger, meanwhile, suffered injuries resulting in a health disorder lasting more than seven days.
The 41-year-old was charged with causing a road accident resulting in serious harm to health, driving a vehicle while intoxicated under recidivism conditions, and temporary use of a vehicle. The alleged offenses carry a sentence of between one and 10 years in prison.
The man admitted to committing the alleged acts and gave explanations. As reported by the prosecutor’s office, he had previously been convicted with final effect of driving while intoxicated.
The accused remains in pre-trial detention until the trial begins. The District Court in Jelenia Góra will decide on his criminal liability.
