As officers from the Traffic Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra established, a 19-year-old man who had held his driving licence for just two months was behind the wheel.

According to the police findings, the young driver failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions. As a result, he lost control of the vehicle, left the road and ended up in a roadside ditch. The force of the impact was so great that the BMW was seriously damaged.

The man admitted to the officers that he had been driving too fast. He was fined PLN 1,000 for the offence.

Fortunately, there were no passengers in the car at the time of the incident, and no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the collision. As a result, the serious-looking incident did not end in tragedy.

The police emphasise that this is another example of how dangerous overestimating one’s own abilities can be, especially for people who are just beginning to drive independently. Obtaining a driving licence alone does not yet mean having extensive experience behind the wheel.

The officers also remind drivers that excessive speed remains one of the most common causes of road incidents. It reduces the time available to react, lengthens the braking distance and significantly increases the risk of losing control of the vehicle, which can lead to serious consequences even in seemingly good conditions.
