The incident occurred in one of the localities in Lubin County. The duty officer at the local police station received a report concerning damage to a statue of the Virgin Mary located in a publicly accessible area.
According to witness accounts, a young man allegedly appeared at the site where the image of the saint was located and then caused it to be destroyed. During the incident, he also allegedly shouted vulgar and offensive words directed at the Virgin Mary, causing outrage among people nearby.
The police quickly established the suspect’s identity and detained the 29-year-old county resident. However, the matter did not end there.
In the course of further investigative activities, investigators established that after returning home, the man had allegedly behaved aggressively toward his loved ones. He allegedly threatened to kill them, causing them justified fears that the threats would be carried out.
The detainee was taken to a police cell. After the evidence had been collected, he was brought before the prosecutor’s office, where he was charged.
The court granted the investigators’ request and ordered the 29-year-old held in pre-trial detention for three months.
