The incident occurred during a night shift. Traffic officers noticed an Audi driving without the required illumination of its rear registration plate. The police attempted to stop the vehicle for a check, using flashing lights and audible signals. However, the driver ignored the officers’ orders and began to flee.
The chase continued along roads in the municipality. At one point, the woman turned onto a gravel road, where she lost the ability to continue driving and stopped in the bushes. While attempting to reverse the vehicle, she also struck a marked police car. She then abandoned the car and continued fleeing on foot.
Officers from the Criminal Department of the Zgorzelec police headquarters joined the operation. They found the woman hiding in the bushes and arrested her. The 26-year-old was taken to a police station.
A check of police databases showed that the resident of Zgorzelec County had three valid court-ordered bans on driving motor vehicles. In addition, she was wanted by the German justice system to establish her place of residence and by a Polish court to serve 25 days of substitute imprisonment for an unpaid fine.
The woman was placed in detention.
We remind you that, under Article 178b of the Criminal Code, failing to stop for a roadside check is a criminal offense punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment. The same penalty applies to failure to comply with a court-ordered driving ban, under Article 244 of the Criminal Code.
Police officers emphasize that every attempt to flee a roadside check poses a serious threat to the safety of all road users. They therefore appeal for compliance with traffic regulations, following officers’ orders and behaving responsibly on the road.
