Although the damage is not yet extensive, situations of this kind can, over time, lead to further subsidence of the surface and an expansion of the depression.

What could have caused the paving blocks to sink?

There are several possible causes.

Most often, similar damage results from rainwater washing away the soil after entering beneath the surface through gaps or damaged drainage components.

The cause may also be a leak in underground utilities, such as stormwater drainage, sanitary sewers or water supply lines.

Such situations may also arise as a result of the natural settling of the pavement subbase, especially if earthworks or renovation work was previously carried out in this location. In such cases, a void may form beneath the paving blocks, eventually causing individual surface elements to sink.

Residents await a response

The road administrator is the Bolesławiec City Office. We appeal for a response.

Until an inspection is carried out, it is advisable to exercise caution when using this section of pavement, especially after dark or during rainfall, when uneven surfaces may be less visible.
