Andrzej Sawicki, Polkowice’s coach, has so far won every provincial cup final in which he has taken part. Previously, he won the trophy in Lubusz Voivodeship, where he coached Lechia Zielona Góra for years. Now, in the debut JAXAN Lower Silesian Polish Cup final – both for him and for the club – he is celebrating success once again.

The opening of the match nevertheless unfolded in such a way that, although Polkowice controlled the game, the more dangerous shots were taken by the players from Dzierżoniów. Everything changed in the 25th minute. Górnik put together a superb passing move, which Jakub Wireński finished with a brilliant strike. The player “took the cobwebs” out of the top corner of the goal guarded by Kacper Smolak, leaving the Dzierżoniów goalkeeper with no chance to intervene.

The conceded goal irritated Lechia’s players, who moved more boldly into the opponents’ penalty area. There, however, the three-man defensive block played under the direction of professor Bartosz Rymaniak – the most experienced player on the pitch.

Since Lechia failed to equalize before the break, Polkowice quickly extended their lead at the start of the second half. In the 48th minute, following a cross into the penalty area and an intelligent headed pass to Bartosz Zynek, a two appeared next to Górnik’s crest on the scoreboard at the Municipal Stadium in Bolesławiec. Nine minutes later, after another cross, Zynek was again the cleverest player in the box and was subsequently named MVP of the match.

- The pitch in Bolesławiec was excellent. I do not want this to sound immodest, but the excellent condition of the pitch is a key element of our style of play – coach Andrzej Sawicki said after the match, commenting on his players’ scoring moves.

Lechia replied only once – from a penalty awarded for a handball by one of Górnik’s defenders. Dawid Wasilewski confidently converted the spot kick.

After that goal, the players from Dzierżoniów were unable to seriously threaten the goal of Marcin Furtak again. In their first appearance in the JAXAN Lower Silesian Polish Cup final, Polkowice won the trophy; for Lechia Dzierżoniów, it was the first final in which they had to acknowledge the superiority of their opponents.

Both teams still face the decisive stage of the season. On the coming Saturday, Polkowice will play a crucial match for promotion to Betclic 2. Liga – at the facility on Kopalniana Street, they will face league leaders Lechia Zielona Góra. Lechia Dzierżoniów, meanwhile, are still fighting to retain second place in the Koleje Dolnośląskie IV liga table, which brings a place in the playoffs for promotion to the level at which the Polkowice side currently plays.

The most important trophy in Lower Silesia has already been awarded, however – it was the black-and-green side who lifted the JAXAN Lower Silesian Polish Cup.

Around a thousand fans watched the match live (at the stadium and via the broadcast). The event was broadcast by the Lower Silesian Football Association on its YouTube channel:
