Uniformed officers detained a 55-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County suspected of deliberately damaging three bottle return machines at shops in the City of Ceramics. All the incidents occurred on the same day, and the perpetrator’s actions were recorded by surveillance cameras.
The case was handled by Criminal Division officers, who established the man’s identity based on the recordings.
A surprising motive
The suspect confessed to the acts of which he was accused. He explained that he had torn out the belts located inside the bottle return machines because he wanted to use them to create “some kind of structure.”
The losses were estimated at no less than PLN 3,000.
Police determined that the detainee had acted as a repeat offender. The man had previously been convicted, among other things, of burglaries.
The 55-year-old vandal has already been charged. He now faces up to 7.5 years in prison.
