The District Prosecutor’s Office in Zgorzelec is conducting an investigation against a 30-year-old resident of Bogatynia suspected of robbery and participation in a brutal beating. The man acted as a repeat offender.

The first of the incidents mentioned occurred on the night of April 27–28 on Matejki Street in Bogatynia. According to investigators’ findings, the attacker used physical force against a 66-year-old man, taking a Samsung smartphone worth PLN 400 from his pocket. Then, in order to retain possession of the stolen item, he punched the victim in the face.

The victim suffered visible injuries: bruising and swelling on the right side of his face. The perpetrator fled the scene, but was arrested by police officers the following day and brought to the prosecutor’s office.

Investigators established that this was not the only offense committed by the 30-year-old. Two weeks earlier, acting together with another person, he had allegedly brutally beaten another man—also in Bogatynia. During the attack, tear gas was used, after which the perpetrators punched and kicked the victim around the head.

The victim in that incident suffered serious injuries to his head and face, and his life was genuinely at risk. The prosecutor’s office emphasizes that the perpetrators’ actions exposed him to an immediate risk of loss of life or serious harm to his health.

The suspect confessed to the charges against him and gave explanations. At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered three months of pre-trial detention for the 30-year-old. He faces up to 15 years in prison for the crimes committed.
