Employees of the Warsaw and Wrocław branches of the Institute of National Remembrance participated in the exhibition’s opening. Janusz Krupski, deputy president of the IPN, was also present. Bolesławiec was represented by the city and county authorities, as well as representatives of various communities and organizations operating in our city.
The exhibition began with two lectures. Grzegorz Majchrzak from the Warsaw branch of the IPN spoke about the security service’s actions against Solidarność in the 1980s. Paweł Piotrowski from the Wrocław IPN addressed the issue of repression against Jelenia Góra’s Solidarność during martial law. Both speakers sought to reveal the behind-the-scenes details of the security service’s activities during the period of the Polish People’s Republic. They discussed, among other things, plans to establish Neo-Solidarity, intended to destroy the genuine union, and attempts to set union leaders against one another. They also spoke about recruiting agents and their infiltration of opposition structures.
The “People of the UB” exhibition was prepared by the Wrocław branch of the Institute of National Remembrance.
