Deputy Łukasz Litewka published online a video of an incident that occurred on Tuesday, April 14, in Szczytnica in Bolesławiec County. The recording showed a man leaning over the roe deer who—as witnesses claim—had decided on his own to put the injured animal out of its misery. A police officer was standing nearby.

The internet was flooded with criticism. Police officers and hunters were attacked. People wrote with great sympathy about the injured roe deer. A reader commenting on the matter on the istotne.pl profile took a broader view of the issue. Below is the reader’s comment:

And, for once, I will stand up for the police!

Why is it that around 60,000 pigs, around 5 million chickens, 2 million ducks, and 6,000 cows and bulls are killed in Poland alone every day...? Since the roe deer was lying there barely alive, with numerous signs of fractures and abrasions, the hunter did the right thing by killing it and shortening its suffering.

It is good that the police did not intervene in this matter. Bravo for that! You pour sewage on the hunter and the police officers, yet you have no problem with thousands of other animals being sent to slaughter every day. And later you enjoy delicious steaks, cutlets or KFC chicken!
