A dramatic road accident occurred on April 5, 2026, in the afternoon, in Mała Wieś Dolna in Zgorzelec County. A 20-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County, driving an Audi A4 passenger car, caused an accident in which a 17-year-old passenger died and two other people were injured.

Investigators established that the man intentionally violated road safety rules. He failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions and lost control of the vehicle on a bend, after which it crashed into a tree. The force of the impact was so great that one of the passengers died at the scene.

The fact that the 20-year-old should not have been behind the wheel at all is particularly shocking. He was subject to a court-imposed ban on driving motor vehicles—until February 2027—issued by the District Court in Lubań. The ban resulted from an earlier traffic offense.

The two remaining passengers suffered bodily injuries resulting in a health disorder lasting more than seven days. They received medical care.

The suspect was brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zgorzelec, where he was charged with causing a fatal road accident and violating a court-imposed driving ban.

The man pleaded guilty and gave an explanation. It was reported that he had no previous convictions.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered the suspect to be held in pre-trial detention for three months. The 20-year-old faces a sentence of between six months and eight years in prison.
