The winter season in Jakuszyce has come to an end, leaving behind months of major events, international competition and a noticeable increase in tourist traffic. The conditions and preparation of the infrastructure around Polana also played an important role in the course of the season.
– This season showed how important it is to prepare the infrastructure around Polana Jakuszycka, including the artificial snowmaking system. Thanks to this, we were able to maintain good conditions for training and competitions despite the changeable weather – says DCS Polana Jakuszycka director Wojciech Gęstwa.
During this time, Jakuszyce hosted many events, including those of international standing, which attracted athletes and training teams from around the world. Polana became a venue for competition at the highest level, as well as an important point on the map of winter World Cup events.
IBU Para Biathlon World Cup and FIS Para Cross-Country World Cup
Jakuszyce hosted the IBU Para Biathlon World Cup for athletes with disabilities, with representatives of many countries taking part. A few days later, Polana once again became the arena for international competition, this time during the FIS Para Cross-Country World Cup. Para cross-country skiers competed on the courses in various starting classes.
– We are proud that at the Lower Silesian Sports Centre we were able to host athletes with disabilities from all over the world. It is important to us that the facility met all the requirements related to organising events of this rank – Wojciech Gęstwa emphasises.
Alongside the international events, the calendar also included those that attract thousands of participants every year.
The 50th Bieg Piastów and Dolnośląska Zima
The anniversary edition of Poland’s largest cross-country skiing event attracted approximately 7,000 participants. The programme included races over various distances, including the 50 km main race, with elite athletes and amateurs from Poland and abroad taking part.
The season also featured events aimed at residents and tourists, showcasing the region’s winter offering. The Dolnośląska Zima event took place at Polana Jakuszycka, combining sporting activity with a presentation of ways to spend time in the region. The programme included activities aimed at both residents and visitors.
The season at Polana also involved daily activity and events aimed at various groups of visitors, including Women’s Day on cross-country skis, which brought more than 160 participants to the courses. The calendar also included concerts, conferences and sessions of the Lower Silesian Regional Assembly.
Training and practice
During the season, Polana Jakuszycka also served as a training and practice base. Sports camps, winter camps and training sessions for clubs from all over Poland were held there.
– We are now preparing for the coming warmer months, including cycling events and the continued development of our active leisure offering. We invite tourists, athletes and everyone who wants to spend time in a mountain setting – says Wojciech Gęstwa.
Spring and summer lie ahead – a time of increasingly longer days that encourage outdoor activity. It is a good moment to return to the mountains for a walk, a run or the first kilometres by bicycle. Polana Jakuszycka is entering another season of activity, this time in warmer conditions.
More information about events and the current offering is available on our social media and the Polana Jakuszycka website.
