Thanks to the decisive response of employees at one of the workplaces in Bogatynia, police officers from the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec arrested a 24-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County who possessed a significant quantity of illegal cigarettes. – The incident took place on a service road at one of the plants, where security guards noticed a parked Volkswagen vehicle and, next to it, a man and cartons of cigarettes – reports Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł from the Zgorzelec District Police Headquarters.
She adds: – The employees intervened and prevented him from leaving.
Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. The officers confirmed that a total of 80 cartons of cigarettes without Polish excise stamps were found, both near the vehicle and inside it.
The 24-year-old was arrested, and the car and tobacco products were secured.

Preliminary findings indicate that if the illegal cigarettes had entered circulation, losses to the State Treasury could have exceeded PLN 1.4 million.
