On 13 March 2026, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica sent an indictment against 64-year-old Jan B. from one of the towns near Lubin. Investigators accuse B. of having “repeatedly caused a minor under the age of 15 to engage in other sexual activities from October 2023 to 5 August 2025, and of having intercourse with her repeatedly from October 2024.”
The case came to light in August 2025 – the girl’s mother filed a report of the crime – explains Liliana Łukasiewicz of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica. – She had previously received information from friends that, when travelling to a nearby village, the girl was meeting an older man.
The woman checked her daughter’s phone. When the fact that the accused was maintaining an intimate relationship with the minor was confirmed, the mother immediately notified the police, and the prosecutor launched an investigation into the case.
Jan B. was detained on 20 August 2025 and subsequently remanded in custody. On 4 October, his detention was extended for another three months, until 17 January 2026. The spokesperson said: – Subsequently, despite the prosecutor’s motion, the court did not extend this measure against the above-mentioned person for another period. The appeal proved unsuccessful.
What did the investigators do?
Prosecutor L. Łukasiewicz:
(...) the prosecutor imposed non-custodial preventive measures in the form of police supervision combined with a ban on approaching the victim closer than 200 metres, contacting her by post or any other technical means of communication, through third parties or in any other way; a ban on being present in any places typically frequented by minors, i.e. schools, kindergartens, playgrounds, swimming pools, playrooms, etc.; a ban on organising or attending events involving minors; and a ban on leaving the country.
When questioned as a suspect, Jan B. initially admitted committing the alleged act and gave explanations; after the charges were supplemented, he denied committing the offence and refused to give explanations.
B. had not previously been convicted. He has vocational education. Before his detention, he served as the village head of his village and as a councillor in a nearby town. He now faces up to 15 years in prison.
The case will be heard by the District Court in Lubin.
