In the last hour, reports have reached the istotne.pl newsroom from residents concerned about a drone flying at night over Bolesławiec. Readers pointed out that the device was moving at a low altitude, and its flight was not visible in the DroneTower app, which is used to coordinate unmanned aircraft operations in Poland.
The lack of information about the flight in the app raised concerns among some residents, who wondered whether the operation was legal and safe. The newsroom received three independent reports concerning a drone seen over different parts of the city.
We have established that the drone is carrying out flights in connection with an inspection of heating infrastructure. Such operations are used to detect heat losses and assess the technical condition of the network. Flights carried out at night are particularly effective because temperature differences are then most visible to thermal-imaging cameras.
The police had already been informed about the activities being conducted and are aware of the flights. This means that the operation does not pose a threat to residents.
It is worth noting that, under the applicable regulations, most drone flights should be reported in the coordination system of the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency, and their status can be checked in the DroneTower app. In practice, however, not all operations are publicly visible in the app, which may result from the specifics of the flight or the operational procedures used.
Update 10:50
