The District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra is supervising an investigation conducted by the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra against a 44-year-old resident of Karkonosze County, suspected of violating five court-ordered bans on driving motor vehicles, fleeing from a pursuit conducted by police officers, damaging a police car, as well as exposing a passenger to an immediate danger of loss of life or serious bodily harm.

– As established, on 17 February 2026 in Jelenia Góra, a police patrol decided to stop a man driving a Fiat Doblo for a routine traffic check. On seeing the police officers, the driver attempted to flee – reports Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra. – He did not stop for the inspection despite being ordered to do so by the officers using visual and audible signals.

Failing to exercise particular caution or maintain a safe speed that would ensure control of the vehicle, and wishing to avoid the police blockade, the driver hit a police car standing in the street and then a roadside tree. The spokesperson:

Thus, he exposed the vehicle’s passenger to an immediate danger of loss of life or serious bodily harm and damaged the police car, causing losses of no less than PLN 850.

After the perpetrator was arrested, it turned out that the District Court in Jelenia Góra had already issued a court-ordered ban on his driving motor vehicles five times. At present, he is subject to a lifetime ban on driving such vehicles.

The suspect was charged. He committed these acts while a repeat offender. Therefore, he faces a sentence of up to 7.5 years in prison.

The perpetrator admitted committing the offences of which he was accused. He gave an explanation.

Investigators conclude:

At the request of the District Prosecutor in Jelenia Góra, the local District Court ordered preventive detention for the 44-year-old for a period of three months.
