The General Command of the Branches of the Armed Forces announced the start of planned training flights in Polish airspace involving supersonic aircraft.

During the exercises, pilots will exceed the speed of sound. This is accompanied by a characteristic, loud bang—the so-called sonic boom. For people on the ground, it may sound like an explosion or a powerful impact; however, it is a natural physical effect produced during flight at very high speed.

The bang does not indicate a threat

The military emphasizes that the operations are routine training and serve to maintain the operational readiness of pilots and equipment.

The flights are conducted in accordance with applicable regulations and under the supervision of services responsible for the safety of the airspace. As stated in the announcement, they pose no threat to residents or infrastructure.

Possible reactions among residents

The bang may occur suddenly and be felt across a large area—even several dozen kilometers from the aircraft’s flight path. The phenomenon is sometimes mistaken for an explosion or seismic tremor, which is why the services inform residents about it in advance.

The Command assures that all operations are carried out in a controlled manner, while maintaining the highest safety standards. Residents have no reason to be concerned.
