At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered three months of pre-trial detention for the 45-year-old resident of Lubań. – The man is suspected of making criminal threats against his 75-year-old mother and brother, and of violating his brother’s bodily integrity – explains Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.
She adds:
As established, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań had previously conducted an investigation against the man for physically and psychologically abusing his mother and brother. At that time, the prosecutor imposed non-custodial preventive measures on him, including police supervision, an order to leave the apartment he shared with the victims, and a ban on contacting them or approaching within 50 metres.
The proceedings ended with an indictment being filed against him with the District Court in Lubań.
However, on 16 January 2026, despite the ban on approaching and contacting members of his family, and while intoxicated—nearly 3 per mille—, the perpetrator started another dispute. During it, he struck his brother several times with his hand and kicked him in the abdomen, and, holding a kitchen knife, threatened to kill him and his mother.
Prosecutor: – He also insulted them using words commonly regarded as offensive. Because of the perpetrator’s behaviour and his failure to respect the preventive measures imposed on him, the victims feared that he would carry out these threats.
The man was detained by officers of the Lubań County Police Headquarters. He was then charged. He admitted to committing the alleged acts and gave explanations.
Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska adds: – The indictment filed against him for physically and psychologically abusing members of his family is also currently awaiting consideration by the District Court in Lubań.
