On January 15, 2026, before 10:00 a.m., a serious accident involving a passenger car and a cyclist occurred in Bogatynia. – Emergency services were dispatched to the scene immediately – reports Senior Warrant Officer Łukasz Porębski from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
What did the officers establish?
A 52-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County, driving a Ford, hit a 64-year-old cyclist who was riding correctly. Spokesperson:
Due to the injuries the woman suffered as a result of the incident, medical personnel were dispatched to the scene. The arriving Emergency Medical Services team took the woman to hospital to provide specialized medical assistance.
Officers established that shortly before the incident, the perpetrator’s child had been in the vehicle; he had driven the child to school.
A test conducted at the scene confirmed that, at the time of the incident, the driver had nearly one per mille of alcohol in his exhaled breath.
Procedural activities were carried out at the scene. All the circumstances of the incident will now be clarified under the supervision of the prosecutor.
Police:
We remind you that anyone who, by violating, even unintentionally, the safety rules governing land, water or air traffic, unintentionally causes an accident in which another person suffers bodily injuries is liable to imprisonment for up to three years.
If the consequence of the accident is another person’s death or serious bodily harm, the perpetrator is liable to imprisonment from six months to eight years.
However, if the perpetrator was intoxicated, they face between three and 16 years in prison.
And adds:
Let us remember that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is one of the most serious threats to road safety. Drunk drivers pose a real risk not only to themselves but also to other road users.
