A 76-year-old driver of a Mazda, violating traffic regulations, failed to give way to a 75-year-old woman who was correctly crossing at a marked pedestrian crossing.

As a result of the incident, the pedestrian was transported to hospital due to the serious injuries she sustained. The driver responsible for the accident was sober and explained his conduct by saying that he had failed to properly observe his surroundings and had not noticed the pedestrian. Consequently, police officers detained the driver's licence.

In connection with the incident, the police once again appeal to all road users to exercise particular caution. Pedestrians, as those especially vulnerable to danger, are encouraged to make sure that it is safe to cross the road and to ensure their own visibility, especially in conditions of limited visibility, by using reflective elements. Drivers, meanwhile, are required to comply strictly with the regulations and give way to pedestrians at crossings. Prudence and compliance with the law remain crucial to ensuring safety on the roads.
