Bolesławiec police officers are warning about another scam method used against people selling items on classified-advertising platforms:

A resident of the county who wanted to sell a cabinet on OLX fell victim to criminals posing as a buyer and a service employee, losing nearly PLN 4,000.

How do the criminals operate?

The victim posted an OLX listing to sell a cabinet. A man who spoke Polish poorly contacted her by phone very quickly. He claimed to be interested in buying the item and suggested continuing the conversation via WhatsApp.

The woman then received messages containing screenshots supposedly confirming that the transaction had been completed in the OLX system and that payment information would be sent to her email address.

The victim clicked the green button and was redirected to a bank website. At the same time, someone claiming to be a representative of the sales platform called her and insisted that, in order to receive the money, it was necessary to “block the funds in the account.”

The woman logged in and entered the BLIK code several times for the alleged consultant. Only when the caller demanded that she generate BLIK codes linked to her credit card did the victim realize that she had been scammed. She lost nearly PLN 4,000.

Police once again remind people of the basic safety rules when selling on classified-advertising websites: – Do not click links received by SMS, email or messaging apps.
